Some Knowledge About Hard Disk Bad Sector

As we all know that there are many ways for us to increase computer performance, but if you have you never heard about bad sector before and how it affects the computer performance. It is necessary for you to be patient to read this article.

First, let's have a glance at what bad sector is. As what it is called, a bad sector is one that cannot be used due to permanent damage like physical damage to the disk surface or failed flash memory transistors. Normally, it can be detected by some utility tools like Scandisk on Microsoft systems. When at this time, the data in those bad sectors may be lost, but the data on others' won't be affected, and it is also possible to use the disk.

When there are bad sectors on the hard disk, there must be serious problems occurring like problems when reading / writing data, or having shrill noise at startup. So some actions are needed to mark them out and automatically skip them to increase computer performance.

Though those bad sectors can not be repaired, you can mark them as unusable. Once they are marked as unusable, the Operating System will skip them when trying to store data. Below is what you can do:

1) Go to My Computer
2) Right click the drive you want to check to select "Properties"
3) Click "Tools" on the top and then "Check Now" button.

With the simple steps above, the bad sector on the hard disk will be checked and then marked out, hence increasing computer performance.

But this can not essentially solve the problem. To always enjoy a computer, you have to from some good habits while using computer from the below sides:

1) Do not suddenly turn off power when the hard disk is still working. Before turning off the power, first please make sure that the HDD LD has been off.
2) Remember that the hard disk must be well protected against dampness, moisture, shock and dust.
3) Make sure the hard disk is not always working at high-temperature (better to keep at 20-25 degrees C).

With the methods above, you can extend the lifespan of the hard disk and maintain your computer performance. But when trying to maintain hard disk, please remember not to neglect the below side: disk defragmentation.
